I have looked at modern binders, and some of them look amazing! I kind of want one even though my life doesn't depend on passing (even though that does make me sound vaguely appropriative.)

I was looking at making a period one partly because I was hoping I could use leftover linen and not add to project budget, though, too. (Project budget >> all at the moment, alas.)
